For Sale Nathan K3H TRAIN HORN Excellent Condition! This horn is used, but has not seen too much active service and is in excellent condition. It has bells 1, 2 and 4. This horn was in a private collection and is being sold through Horn & Whistle Magazine. The price is $395, with shipping extra. If you wish to purchase this horn and pay for it via your credit card, you can do so by using the Horn & Whistle subscription form which has a special section for purchasing things other than a magazine subscription. The horn is very clean and in good condition. See pictures below. It works very well, and, as is true of K horns, it's LOUD. Begins stable blowing at 18 PSI and just gets louder and louder as you increase the pressure to 140 PSI, typical pressure on a locomotive. K horns are used on more US and Canadian RR locomotives than any other type; they are considered the best and most powerful railroad horns available, easily audible 4 miles away along a straight track. K horns compare favorably to the horns used on some fire stations and municipal buildings for warning a community. They have the special double-disc diaphragms with a sealed air space between forming a small "kettledrum" which greatly improves pitch stability and performance. When the late Robert Swanson developed these horns, he referred to them as the "Kettledrum Principle" horn which is where the "K" designation comes from. You can turn any of the bells around for backward coverage if desired. Standard base with 1/2" NPT connection. |

This picture gives a good indication of the horn's size, seen here on the top of a washing machine. Directly below, with cap and diaphragms removed, this picture shows the internals to be in very clean condition with no wear on the seats or clamp rings. Note air diffuser plate held in place by the three socket-head cap screws. Below, left, another view. |
